How to keep grandparents on your kids' sports schedule

Short answer: Send them a free guest invite in Home Team. Up to 4 guests get the live schedule, directions, and leave alarms from their own address, without your home address.

Grandma wants to make every game. You want her there — without becoming the family dispatcher. Here is a calmer way to keep grandparents on the sports schedule.

The usual Saturday scramble

Youth sports rarely live in one place. Soccer sits in one team app, baseball in another, and the coach texts a last-minute field change to a group chat you muted. When grandma asks, “Where am I going?” you screenshot a schedule, type an address, and hope the time did not already move.

That works once. It falls apart when you have two kids, three teams, and grandparents who drive from across town. They need the same live schedule you see — not a stale photo.

What do grandparents actually need?

Most grandparents do not need to edit your household or manage the roster. They need:

  • When the game or practice starts
  • Where it is, with directions
  • When to leave from their house so they arrive on time
  • Optionally, whether they should claim a ride

They do not need your home address on their phone, and they should not have to buy another subscription just to follow along.

Free guest passes (up to 4)

Home Team is built for that pattern. One household subscription covers both parents plus up to 4 free guest passes — six people in the household when both parents are linked. Guests like grandma and grandpa can follow the full game and practice schedule with directions and their own leave-time alarms from their own address.

Guests never receive your home address. They cannot edit the family setup or invite other people. If you enable ride claiming, they can tap that they are driving for an event — useful when grandpa is taking one kid while you take the other.

Does Home Team replace team apps?

Home Team does not replace TeamSnap, GameChanger, SportsEngine, or your other team apps. It reads the calendar subscription link each team already publishes. Named apps are examples only: if a team app offers a Sync, Subscribe, or Export calendar link, it can feed the family schedule.

Once those links are in Home Team, everyone in the household — parents and guests — sees one color-coded week instead of five separate apps.

How do you set it up?

  1. Add your kids (first names are enough).
  2. Paste each team's calendar subscription link. Home Team fills in games and practices.
  3. Link your co-parent's phone so you share the same household.
  4. Send grandma a guest invite. She follows along for free.

After that, when a coach moves a game in the team app, the schedule updates for the people who are following it — including guests with leave alarms based on where they actually leave from.

Leave alarms beat another group text

Knowing the start time is not the same as knowing when to pull out of the driveway. Home Team's leave alarms factor drive time and the coach's “be there early” window. Guests get that calculation from their own address, so grandma is not guessing traffic from your side of town.

Pair that with “who's driving” for each event, and the whole crew knows the plan without a 47-message thread.

Privacy that still feels welcoming

Families often hesitate to add relatives because they do not want to hand out their home address or give edit access to the household. Guest passes are designed for that tension: guests follow the public logistics of games — times, venues, directions, leave alarms — without receiving your home address and without the ability to change kids, calendars, or invites.

If grandpa sometimes drives, you can let guests claim rides. If he only watches, he can follow the schedule quietly. Either way, you stop being the intermediary for every field change.

When does Home Team launch?

Home Team early access is open on iPhone now, ahead of the App Store launch. Early access on iPhone includes a first-year yearly price of $59.99 (reg. $79.99) if you go yearly within 14 days of launch. Join the list below for an invite when your spot opens and one email on launch day.
